Tattoo Aftercare
To get the best results, please follow these guidelines:
Day 1

-
A new tattoo is an open wound, so please treat it as such. Avoid touching your healing tattoo unnecessarily and only ever do so with clean hands. Keep any pets away from your tattoo and don't let them sleep in your bed until it has healed (sorry!).
-
Before you leave I will wrap your tattoo in clingfilm, please leave this in place for around an hour.
-
There will be lots of ink and plasma accumulating over the tattoo, this is normal.
-
After 1 hour, remove the clingfilm and wash the tattoo with a small amount of mild anti-bacterial soap.
-
Pat the tattoo dry with kitchen towel, or let the tattoo air dry.
-
Apply a thin layer of Palmers™ cocoa butter (If you can visibly see the cream after application, then you've used too much).
-
Before bed, wash the tattoo once more, but this time apply clingfilm with no cocoa butter. You'll need micropore tape or something similar to hold the clingfilm in place overnight.

Day 2 onwards

-
Remove the clingfilm when you wake up, wash the tattoo with mild soap, and dry as previously described.
-
Apply a thin layer of cocoa butter, and leave the tattoo exposed. Loose clothing should be worn, and you must avoid any rubbing caused by clothing, straps, etc. (From day two onwards, it is not recommended to wrap the tattoo in clingfilm unless you are likely to be in a dirty environment).
-
Wash the tattoo a couple of times a day for the first 3 days or until it starts to scab up, apply a thin layer of cocoa butter once dry. Try not to over apply as this can block hair follicles and cause issues with healing. Whatever you do, resist the temptation to scratch or pick at your tattoo!
-
While infection is unlikely, it is a risk whenever there is any trauma to the skin. Redness, swelling and tenderness are normal for the first few days but if this is getting worse or the redness is extending further away from the tattoo and it feels very hot this can be a sign of infection and you should contact a doctor for advice
-
Tattoos typically heal within two weeks, during this time please avoid swimming/submerging your tatttoo (showers are fine), prolonged sun exposure, tanning of any form, any non-recommended topical creams (including suncream), or perfumed products.
-
You can continue applying cocoa butter for as long as you like after the initial healing is comple to keep your tattoo looking great!
